Anonymous, a group of online hackers that frequently takes up politically charged causes such as bringing down the websites for Visa and other credit card companies, has released a massive batch of internal Bankof America emails.

It looks like the hacker group, which frequents online message board 4chan, made good on a promise Wikileaks founder Julian Assange made several months ago. Assange and Wikileaks indicated that they planned to publish the documents in December. But that was before Assange was arrested on suspicion of sexual offenses in December. Continue reading »

Councillors' email privacy questioned

At least part of the opposition on Montreal city council says it will disconnect from the computer server and telephone system at city hall if it doesn’t get an assurance that the city comptroller’s office isn’t spying on them, Projet Montréal says.

The declaration came shortly before city council was to meet last night to discuss the email surveillance of the city auditor-general that sparked a scandal at city hall a week ago – and just after Vision Montreal charged that city comptroller Pierre Reid has had access to the emails of elected officials for almost a year. EMAIL MANAGEMENT REMAINS a complex undertaking for IT managers, with spam and email security among the biggest problems, according to Mimecast’s recent Microsoft Exchange 2010 Infrastructure Survey. The survey indicates that IT managers want to be able to harness the new features of Microsoft Exchange 2010 without introducing additional risk, cost, and complexity during the migration process.

To deal with spam and email security issues, 50% of respondents reported they had at least two solutions foremail and 20% said they had at least three, Orlando Scott-Cowley, Mimecast Internet and messaging security and compliance expert, wrote in a statement. Continue reading »
